India opens equity markets to all overseas individuals

The government has expanded access to Indian equity markets by permitting all overseas individuals to invest in listed companies through the portfolio investment route. It was earlier limited largely to NRIs and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs). Under the revised rules, overseas individuals can buy, sell and transfer shares on a repatriation basis through authorised channels and stock exchanges.
