Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria gave his assent to state’s new anti-sacrilege legislation - the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026 - making it a law. The Act says anyone involved in sacrilege against Guru Granth Sahib will face punishment from 10 years to life imprisonment. It also provides fines of ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh.
