Yumnam Khemchand Singh, the BJP leader who was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Manipur, belongs to the Meitei community. A two-time MLA, he was elected from the Singjamei Assembly constituency in consecutive terms in 2017 and 2022. He also served as the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 2017 to 2022.
