Plastic bottles could find new life in batteries as graphite: Study

Researchers at Penn State have converted waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into highly ordered graphite, a crystalline form of carbon. The formed graphite exhibited large, better-ordered crystallines than commercial natural graphite. The breakthrough could help meet the growing demand for battery-grade graphite used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics and energy storage batteries.
