Discriminatory: SC on Parsi women's exclusion from religion over inter-faith marriage
short by Garima Garg / on Tuesday, 5 May, 2026
Supreme Court responded to a petition by a Parsi woman barred from entering a fire temple and attending her parents' last rites because she married a Hindu man. "It's virtually excommunication...The right of conscience...is a right by birth...it can't be taken away by marriage," Justice BV Nagarathna said. She called the practice "discriminatory" as it doesn't apply to Parsi men.
