What is the infected blood scandal in UK that killed 3,000?
short by Shreyasi Banerjee / on Tuesday, 21 May, 2024
Between the 1970s and 1990s, over 30,000 people in Britain who needed blood received infected blood, which could've spread infections like hepatitis and HIV. Patients were given a new treatment that NHS imported from the US. Some of the plasma used to make the blood products was traced to high-risk donors, including prison inmates. The scandal led to 3,000 deaths.
