UP government gave back the possession of land to three Hindu families in Sambhal after 47 years. The families had fled Sambhal during 1978 communal riots and the land was allegedly encroached upon by members of another community. Amrish Kumar, one of the claimants, said, "We lived in Sambhal until...1978, during which my grandfather...was killed. Fearing for our lives, we...abandoned...property."
