T'gana passes bill to enable co-option of transgenders in municipal corporations

Telangana Assembly on Friday passed the Telangana Municipalities (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2026 to enable the co-option of transgender persons in municipal corporations. Co-option means appointing eligible people to a body without them being elected. One transgender person will be nominated as a co-opted member in each corporation in each of nine corporations outside Hyderabad's Core Urban Region.
