The government has strengthened the regulatory framework to tackle AI-generated deepfakes. Under amendments to the IT Rules made in February, the deadline for platforms to remove unlawful content was reduced from 36 hours to three hours after receiving a valid government or court order. The amendments also made the labelling of AI-generated content mandatory.
