India needs at least one more complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) chip fabrication plant, a memory fab and a display fab to build a globally competitive chip ecosystem under Semicon 2.0, Electronics Secretary S Krishnan said. The Union Cabinet approved ISM 2.0 on July 15. The revamped ₹1.3 lakh crore programme aims to strengthen the entire semiconductor value chain beyond fabs.
