How can a will change but the nominee remain the same?

A person may write a will after marriage, childbirth or major family changes but still have an old nominee listed on a bank account. A nominee can claim or receive the asset after the holder's death, but does not automatically become its final owner. The will and applicable succession laws may determine how the estate is ultimately distributed among heirs.
