A study published in 'Astronomy and Astrophysics' challenged the popular theory that the Sun would grow and consume the earth in a thermonuclear inferno when it dies in 5 billion years. The study said that the Sun's gravitational pull would grow weaker as it loses mass. As a result Earth may move away from the Sun before it is consumed.
