Raman Garase was a gardener for IIT Bombay for 39 years. When he retired in 2019, he requested IITB to pay his gratuity of Rs.4.29 lakhs. IIT-B refused because he was a "temporary worker". Garase took them to two labour courts. Both courts ruled in his favour. But IIT-B decided to appeal to the High Court. Garase died by suicide.
