Elbridge Colby, US Under Secretary of War for Policy, reportedly warned Vatican ambassador to align with US policies in a Pentagon meeting in January. The meeting took place after Pope Leo XIV criticised war and diplomacy by force in his inaugural address. "US has military power to do whatever it wants...The Catholic Church...better take its side," Colby reportedly told envoy.
