Google set to launch AI model that could beat OpenAI, Anthropic in coding: Report

Google DeepMind is set to release a new AI model with significantly upgraded coding capabilities, aiming to narrow its gap with rivals OpenAI and Anthropic, The WSJ reported. The model could be called Gemini 3.8 Flash and is also known internally as "Skimaki". In internal head-to-head tests on Jetski, Google's coding platform, engineers preferred 3.8 Flash over Anthropic's Opus model.
