AI study finds all birds share 8 basic sound blocks

Scientists used artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse over 116,000 bird songs from over 3,000 species, finding that all are built from eight basic acoustic blocks. Using recordings from public databases including Xeno-canto, researchers identified slow, fast, and ultrafast trills, flat whistles, slow- and fast-modulated whistles, harmonic stacks, and chaotic notes as the eight common blocks.
