In the Japanese hair washing method, hair is thoroughly rinsed with lukewarm water for at least 1-2 minutes before shampooing. Next, shampoo is lathered in the hands before being applied to scalp, not directly on hair lengths. Gentle finger pads are used to massage scalp in small circular motions. Hair lengths are cleansed only by foam running down during rinsing.
