Around 39.2 crore children, or nearly 92% of all children, are exposed to extreme heat in India, the UNICEF Children's Climate Risk Report 2026 found. Out of these, about 8.9 crore children exposed to heatwaves, data showed. The UNICEF report also said India's 'hazard exposure score' stands at 9.21 on a scale of 0-10, the highest in the subcontinent.
