Manahel al-Otaibi, a 29-year-old Saudi fitness instructor and influencer was jailed for 11 years for 'terror offences'. Amnesty International, however, claimed she was imprisoned for clothing choices. Manahel advocated for liberal dress codes for women, LGBTQ+ rights and abolition of Saudi Arabia male guardianship laws. In 2019, she told DW she "felt free to express her views" in Saudi Arabia.
