A wild elephant that strayed into a residential area and fell into a well in Kerala's Ernakulam was rescued by forest officials. The rescuers used earthmover to break a portion of well and create a mud ramp, allowing it to climb out. The elephant's tusk was found partially severed, but an official said the wound was old and had healed.
