After two benches gave differing views on bail for Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, the Supreme Court referred the question of granting bail under UAPA to a larger bench. The latter bench had said, "Bail is the rule, jail is the exception," even under UAPA. Earlier, the Centre asked if terrorists like Ajmal Kasab would get bail over trial delays.
