Centre is planning to expand Water Metro services across 18 cities in multiple phases. In the first phase, cities like Guwahati, Srinagar, Patna, Varanasi and Prayagraj have been shortlisted, while Tezpur and Dibrugarh are part of the second phase. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the projects are less capital-intensive as they utilise existing waterways and require minimal infrastructure.
