How can salaried employees claim HRA if they pay rent to parents?

The salaried employees can claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) on rent paid to their parents, provided the parent receiving the rent owns the property or has a valid right to let it out. The exemption, available under the old tax regime, requires a rent agreement, bank transfer records, landlord's PAN and proof of the parent's ownership.
