While hearing petitions alleging police brutality during Cockroach Janta Party-led Parliament march, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said police excesses cannot be justified merely because there's agitation. "Just because there's agitation, there can't be a lathi-charge or violent attempt on students," the CJI stated, adding that if there are some anti-social elements that can be taken care of.
