Uttar Pradesh government ordered a fresh investigation into 1978 Sambhal riots and directed police to submit their findings. Recently, while talking about Sambhal, CM Yogi Adityanath stressed the need to address long-standing issues, saying, "Surgery is required for old wounds". Earlier, he'd said that communal riots had been an issue in Sambhal, adding that 184 Hindus were burnt in 1978.
