Members from remote tribes in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are joining the Home Guards to help manage relations with outsiders. Authorities have recruited over 500 young men from across the islands as Home Guards. "The men have been an integral part of policing and are generally posted near their communities," Andaman and Nicobar police chief said.
