Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police seize 15-Kg cocaine

The Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar police in Maharashtra seized 14.868 kg of cocaine in powder form and capsules, valued at over ₹22 crore in the international market. Three people have been arrested in the case, including two African nationals. The police received a tip-off about a woman in possession of drugs and seized cocaine from her tenement in Bhayandar.

FASTags won't be replaced by GPS-based tolling from May 1: Govt

The government on Friday said, "Some reports have said that a Satellite-based Tolling System will be launched from May 1, 2025, and will replace the existing FASTag-based toll collection system nationwide." It clarified, "No such decision has been taken by NHAI or Transport Ministry." The government said 'ANPR-FASTag-based Barrier-Less Tolling System' will be implemented at selected toll plazas.

Ministry of External Affairs said the remarks were "a barely disguised and disingenuous attempt to draw a parallel with India's concerns over...persecution of minorities in Bangladesh". "Bangladesh would do better to focus on protecting the rights of its own minorities," it added.

Plant-based protein linked to longer life: Study

A global study by experts at University of Sydney showed that countries consuming more plant-based proteins, such as chickpeas, tofu and peas, have longer adult life expectancies. The scientists analysed food supply and demographic data between 1961-2018 from 101 countries for the study. Plant proteins are associated with lower risk of chronic diseases and overall mortality rates, the study said.

World's first 'non-stop beating' heart transplant performed

A team of surgeons at National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) successfully performed a new heart transplant in which the donor organ never skips a beat in the process. This zero-ischemic time procedure can help reduce risk of damage typically associated with such complex operations. The patient, who underwent the transplant, is recovering smoothly and has been discharged, NTUH said.

US judge rules Google illegally dominated online advertisement technology markets

US District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Virginia has ruled that Google illegally dominated two markets for online advertising technology. The judge found that Google monopolised markets for publisher ad servers and the market for ad exchanges which sit between buyers and sellers. The decision could allow prosecutors to argue for a breakup of Google's ad products.

Russia denies role in attack on Indian firm's warehouse in Ukraine

Russia on Thursday said it had no role in attack on Indian firm's warehouse in Kyiv and blamed Ukraine for it. "The most likely explanation...is that one of Ukrainian air defence missiles fell on Kusum Healthcare's warehouse, setting it on fire," the Russian Embassy in India said. It said earlier too Ukrainian air defence interceptors have failed to hit targets.

Gold prices hit fresh all-time high, silver plunges by ₹1,400

Gold prices jumped by ₹70 to hit a fresh all-time high of ₹98,170 per 10 grams in Delhi on Thursday, according to the All India Sarafa Association. Gold of 99.9% purity had closed at ₹98,100 per 10 grams on Wednesday. Meanwhile, silver prices plunged by ₹1,400 to hit ₹98,000 per kg from Wednesday's closing level of ₹99,400 per kg.

On Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir's comments about Kashmir, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Pakistan's only relation with Kashmir is the vacation of illegally occupied territory. Munir had called Kashmir the "jugular vein" of Islamabad. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "How can anything foreign be their jugular vein...Kashmir is the union territory of India."
