There are reports that a group of people known as Narikuravars have been kidnapping cats in the Perambur area in Chennai, killing them, and then selling their meat to restaurants. While a similar incident of cats going missing happened in 2018 in the area, it has returned to the spotlight due to a recent video of cat theft going viral.
