What happens to one's mutual fund units if an AMC shuts down?

If an AMC (Asset Management Company) shuts down, investors do not lose ownership of their mutual fund units, as the AMC manages but does not own assets. If the scheme is transferred to another AMC, investors continue to hold their units under the new fund. If the scheme is closed, its assets are liquidated and proceeds are returned to investors.
