Indian Medical Association (IMA) President Dr Anil Nayak praised the government for banning over-the-counter sale of cough syrups, mandating prescriptions and urged people to avoid going to "quack doctors". "Most syrups contain a little caffeine, so people use it for intoxication," he added. Nayak also requested the pharmaceutical industry to ensure the prescription mandate is properly followed.
