The Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda has been caused by Bundibugyo strain. Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV) was identified during an outbreak of Ebola viral hemorrhagic fever in Bundibugyo district, Uganda, during August 2007-February 2008. Bundibugyo ebolavirus diverged from an ancestral lineage that is closely related to the Zaire ebolavirus. There have been two previous outbreaks of the strain.
