Why has India imposed a 3-year import tariff on steel products?

India has imposed a three-year tariff, ranging between 11%-12%, on certain steel imports to safeguard domestic steel industry against cheap sub-standard products. India, the world's second-largest crude steel producer, has been dealing with a surge of low-priced steel imports from China. South Korea and Vietnam have also introduced anti-dumping measures this year to curb inflows of Chinese steel.
