While speaking in the Part-B of the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a framework under which misreporting of income would give immunity from prosecution, as a measure to reduce litigation. However, such taxpayers will be required to pay 100% of the tax amount as an additional income tax, over and above the tax and interest due.
