Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Vishwesh Negi, has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Iran, the government said. Negi is a 2002-batch IFS officer with past experience managing policy matters concerning bilateral relations with Pakistan. His appointment comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East as the US-Iran war entered its sixth month.
