Australian scientists have built the world's first proof-of-concept quantum battery that completes a full charge-store-discharge cycle. Developed by CSIRO, RMIT University and University of Melbourne, the prototype is charged wirelessly via laser and exploits quantum mechanics rather than chemical reactions. Quantum batteries were first proposed as theoretical concept in 2013.
