Why Jupiter’s moon Io is the most volcanic place in Solar System?
short by Swati Dubey / on Friday, 13 December, 2024
NASA's Juno mission has confirmed Io as most volcanically active body in solar system, powered by magma chambers rather than a global magma ocean. Orbiting Jupiter every 42.5 hours, Io's elliptical path causes varying gravitational pulls, leading to extreme tidal flexing. This relentless squeezing generates immense heat, melting parts of Io's interior and fuelling its intense volcanic activity.
