Assam govt employees to be sacked, banned from future jobs over polygamy

The Assam cabinet has approved a proposal, under which government employees who practise polygamy will be dismissed and will not be considered for future employment, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said. These provisions, falling under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), will apply to people from all religions, he added. Assam government tabled the UCC bill in the state Assembly in May.
