US govt declares drought in US Virgin Islands; experts blame it on El Niño
US government has declared a drought disaster in US Virgin Islands and opened emergency loans for farmers and agricultural producers. The drought has particularly affected the region’s agricultural sector and livestock producers. Drought has also hit neighbouring Puerto Rico, with over 33% under extreme drought and another 30% under severe drought. Experts blame the lack of rainfall on El Niño.
