Maharashtra saw 1,941 deaths by suicide due to bankruptcy or indebtedness in 2022, the highest for any state in India. It was followed by Karnataka (1,401 such suicides) and Telangana (1,163 such suicides). Among UTs, Delhi recorded most such deaths by suicide, at 28. West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh saw no deaths by suicide due to bankruptcy or indebtedness.
