Responding to him, Shah said, "Wo bhi repeat hone wale hai (He's going to be repeated)." Notably, UP Assembly elections will be held in 2027 where BJP will look to retain power for third straight term.

In a first, all SC judges to make assets public after cash found at HC judge's home

All Supreme Court judges, including Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, agreed to voluntarily disclose their assets on the apex court's website for the first time, reports said on Thursday. This comes after large amount of cash was found at ex-Delhi HC judge Yashwant Varma's residence. Thirty judges have reportedly declared their assets which are yet to be made public.

BJP-led NDA has 125 MPs in Rajya Sabha, where Waqf Bill was tabled on Thursday, with 98 MPs being BJP members. BJP's NDA allies JD(U), NCP, TDP have four, three and two members respectively, while six are nominated. Opposition INDI Alliance has 88 MPs, including 27 from Congress and 13 from TMC. NDA needs 119 votes to pass the Bill.

US to charge 27% tariff, not 26% on goods imported from India

US will charge 27% tariffs on goods that India exports to the country, White House said. According to an annex listing future reciprocal tariff rates, the 26% tariff on Indian imports has been changed to 27%. The US government noted that initially, a 10% tariff will be imposed on all countries, which will later be increased to the mentioned rates.

Waqf Bill brought in Rajya Sabha after Lok Sabha passes it

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju tabled Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in Rajya Sabha on Thursday after Lok Sabha passed it with 288-232 vote. The Bill that aims to change the regulation and administration of properties by Waqf Boards, was discussed in the Lower House for 12 hours. It was passed by Lok Sabha at around 2 am on Thursday.

Waqf Boards acquired 21 lakh acres of land in last 12 years: Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah said Waqf Boards in India owned 18 lakh acres of land from 1913 to 2013 (100 years). However, this increased by 21 lakh acres in last 12 years (2013-2025), bringing the total to 39 lakh acres, Shah said. He said 20,000 properties were originally recorded as leased, but in 2025 none of these are leased properties.

"Russia isn't on this list because sanctions from the Ukraine war have already rendered trade between the two countries to zero," a White House official told news outlet NOTUS. Trump imposed a 26% reciprocal tariff on India.

Mixed bag, not a setback: Indian govt official on Trump's 26% tariffs

A senior Indian government official said the Commerce Ministry is analysing the impact of the 26% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods. "It's a mixed bag and not a setback for India," the official told PTI. The official said that 10% universal tariffs will come into effect from April 5 and remaining 16% from April 10.

Canada and Mexico were excluded from list of countries on which US President Donald Trump imposed new reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday (April 2). However, this doesn't mean they don't face any action as existing 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods are in effect, while some tariffs on automotive products will take effect on Thursday. India faces 26% reciprocal tariffs.
