Pakistan accounts for 48% of poor in Greater Middle East: World Bank

Pakistan accounts for 48% of people living on less than $3 a day across Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAAP) region, World Bank said. Poverty in Pakistan rose 6.4 percentage points between 2018-19 and 2024-25, with the region remaining above pre-pandemic poverty levels. Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen accounted for 47% of MENAAP's population living below the poverty threshold.
