Why will a US town not see sunset until August 2?
short by Anmol Sharma / on Monday, 11 May, 2026
Utqiagvik, the northernmost town in USA, located over 480 km above Arctic Circle, is experiencing 84 straight days of continuous daylight. It's because Earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees, which during summer positions Arctic directly toward Sun, keeping it permanently above horizon. Sun rose at 2:57 am on May 10 and won't set again until 1:52 am on August 2.
