Pokémon Go users help create 30-billion-image dataset used to train delivery robots

Niantic Spatial, part of the team behind the popular augmented reality game Pokémon Go, has partnered with robot delivery firm Coco Robotics. Coco's robots will use Niantic's Visual Positioning System (VPS), a navigation model trained on over 30 billion images captured by Pokémon Go players. It can pinpoint locations to within a few centimetres by analysing nearby buildings and landmarks.
