Almost two decades after the India-US civil nuclear deal was signed, the US' Department of Energy (DoE) has permitted a US company to build and design nuclear reactors in India. DoE cleared Holtec International for the project on March 26. Holtec has been allowed to transfer "unclassified small modular reactor (SMR) technology" to three private Indian firms.
