The meteorite that wiped out dinosaurs 66 million years ago was likely a rare CO chondrite, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of British Columbia and European institutions analysed nickel isotopes preserved in debris from the impact, concluding that deadly Cretaceous-Paleogene meteorite triggered the extinction of about 75% of Earth's species, including non-avian dinosaurs.
