30-year-long battle over ₹20 bribe ends as 2 govt employees acquitted by SC
A 30-year-long legal battle ended as the Supreme Court acquitted two Gujarat government employees convicted of taking ₹20 bribe. In 1996, the clerk had allegedly demanded ₹120 bribe (₹100 for him and ₹20 for peon). A raid by ACB found ₹20 on peon. The SC commented conviction can't be sustained on recovery of money, without proving that bribe was demanded.
