How can stranded ships in Hormuz Strait spread invasive marine species worldwide?

Marine biologists warned that over 1,500 commercial vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf have become potential carriers of invasive marine species. With the Strait of Hormuz closed, the ships remained anchored for nearly five months, allowing algae, barnacles and other marine organisms to colonise their hulls. Once shipping routes reopen, the vessels could transport invasive species across oceans.
