West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced in 2026-27 Budget that no new licences will be issued for liquor shops within a one-kilometre radius of any educational institution, religious site or hospital. In Kolkata Metropolitan Area, the restriction will apply within a 500-metre radius. He added that ₹14,000 crore will be allocated for providing jobs under VB-G RAM G scheme.
