0.4% MDR charge won't impact UPI volumes: NPCI chief

NPCI chief Dilip Asbe addressed growing concerns over a reduction in UPI transaction volumes after the introduction of a 0.4% MDR charge on payments above ₹2,000, saying, "We don't foresee any major impact on the volumes or value." He noted that 75% of UPI merchants have never seen a transaction above ₹2,000. "Any change will create some pain," Asbe added.
