The 3-6-9 rule helps determine how much emergency savings a person needs. Keep three-month fund if a person is single, has no dependants, and a stable job, Zee Business reported. Save six months' expenses if individual supports a family, has children, or EMIs. Build fund covering at least nine months' expenses if a person is self-employed or has irregular income.
